Braunwald in the Glarus region
Braunwald is the small and fine holiday destination in the midst of the impressive Glarus Alps. A car-free family oasis where children can laugh, parents can recharge their batteries and grandparents can relax.
The term Brunnwald was first recorded in writing in 1421 and means spring-rich, densely wooded area. In this beautiful place you can relax and recharge your batteries.
You are with us in seven minutes:
With the funicular from Linthal, you can reach the car-free Braunwald at an altitude of 1,256 metres above sea level in seven minutes. Once at the top, escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and leave it all behind.
Our attractions here include:
You will find peace and relaxation on our sun terrace with wonderful views over the valley and of Braunwald’s local mountain, the “Ortstock”. There are also several leisurely walks through the pretty village, past Braunwald's rose and herb gardens or towards Nussbüel.
Zwerg Bartli and the flower world:
On the Zwerg-Bartli adventure trail with its eight original settings, you may encounter the original inhabitants of Braunwald or, in the direction of Grotzenbüel in spring time, discover a huge sea of crocuses and, a little later in the Gumen botanical reserve, gentians, edelweiss, fire lilies, white mountain lilies and martagon lilies, etc.
Water and mountains:
The mystical, steel-blue Oberblegisee and the wonderful, torrentuous waterfalls are just two natural spectacles awaiting the visit of our guests in Braunwald. But there are also some natural beauties to discover on longer hiking tours in the direction of Ortstock, to the Glattalp or towards Klöntal.
Cosy mountain restaurants shorten your hikes in and around Braunwald. We are proud to produce wonderfully spicy Glarus Alpine cheese on three alps.
Climbers and paraglider pilots:
For sportsmen, in addition to the paraglider launch site on the Gumendie, reference should be made to the unique climbing opportunities on the via ferrata. With its four different levels of difficulty, everyone will find their personal preferences and challenges.
Lodging in style or more simply in one of our many hotels or, rather distinctively, in a tipi or yurt, all options are available here.
Braunwald in winter:
Anyone who arrives in snow-covered Braunwald on a beautiful winter's day knows why there is so much talk of a fairy-tale world up here. Skiers, snowboarders, touring skiers, sledgers and mountain hikers can enjoy this dreamlike mountain world under the blue sky to the full. 30 kilometres of well-groomed slopes await guests from near and far.
Braunwald offers its guests countless events in both summer and winter, including the Famigros Ski Day, children's afternoon fun, the legendary Music Week, horn sledge racing, jewellery workshops and aprés-ski in one of our bars.
